In order to deal with the shortage of vocational teachers in rural areas of Jiangxi province, Jiangxi Agricultural University counterpart rural vocational middle schools enrolls students in agricultural teacher classes in September 1992. Then, approved by Jiangxi Provincial Education Commission, the Department of Vocational and Technical Education was established in March 1991, which grew into the Vocational Teachers School in September 1992. In 1993, Jiangxi Rural Vocational Education Research and Teacher Training Center was founded. Vocational and Technical School of Jiangxi Agricultural University was set up in April 1999. Since then, the school has implemented a management mechanism as one staff with two functions, namely, “Vocational Teachers School” and “Vocational Technical College”. In May 2000, the “National Key Construction Vocational Teacher Training Base”, approved by the Ministry of Education, was established and affiliated with our school.
Since September 1993, the school has offered 9 Vocational Education Undergraduates majors，including agronomic education, horticultural education, livestock and poultry production education, agricultural product storage and processing, accounting, agricultural economy and management, mechanical design and manufacturing, computer application, and recruited undergraduates of vocational education. In addition, the school set up 21 higher vocational majors since 1999, which includes food processing technology, installation agriculture technology, flower and environmental decoration technology, applied electronic technology, computer application technology, and modern urban landscaping. Since 2013, in response to the actual development of the school, the school has ceased all its three-year specialized majors and founded the undergraduate majors of agronomy education, educational technology, digital media art, digital media technology, and so on. Currently, the school offers one program of pedagogy of the first level discipline, three programs of higher education, vocational and technical education, and educational technology of the second level discipline, one master’s program of education management of the second level discipline, and four undergraduate majors of educational technology, agronomic education, digital media technology, and digital media art. Besides, the school has 5 national, provincial, and university platforms, including the national key construction base for vocational teacher training, etc.
The school has a reasonably-structured teaching staff at all levels. Currently, there are 40 staff members in the school including 6 professors, 13 associate professors, and 11 doctoral degree holders. The school currently has 40 faculty members, among whom, 7 with senior professional titles, 10 with associate senior titles, 17 with intermediate titles. There are 7 doctor’s degree holders, 4 doctoral students, 18 master’s degree holders. Furthermore, there are three young and middle-aged academic leaders and young backbone teachers of Jiangxi Province in the school.
Our school will always stay committed to the idea of imparting knowledge and cultivating people and implement the development policy of vocational education. Meanwhile, our school will strive to transform ourselves into a regional first-class vocational education school with advanced concept and distinguishing characteristics. Through constantly enhancing the construction of undergraduate specialty groups with educational technology and digital media art as the core, our school will enrich the construction connotation of master’s program of education, improve the quality of talent training and strengthen social service capabilities.
