The history of the School of Chemistry and Materials can date back to the Department of Basic Disciplines at Jiangxi Agricultural University. The School of Science was established in April 2002 and was renamed the School of Chemistry and Materials in August 2021. We have made outstanding contributions to the education and teaching of basic disciplines such as English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. With the optimization and integration of disciplines and majors of the University, we will devote ourselves to the education and teaching of basic chemistry courses in agriculture and forestry for the sake of cultivating more chemistry experts for the university. Meanwhile, we will forge ahead in scientific research, social service, international exchange and cooperation, and cultural inheritance and innovation so as to contribute to turning the University into a high-level university with special characteristics.
There are 55 teaching and administrative members in our School, including 12 professors, 16 associate professors, and 29 doctoral degree holders. We have 2 doctoral supervisors and 18 master supervisors. There are one member of the Higher Education Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, one member of the first batch of good teachers in students’ minds in the new era in Jiangxi Province, one gold medal professor in Jiangxi Province, 6 young and middle-aged backbone teachers in Jiangxi Province, one selected candidate for the National Hundred and Thousand and Ten-Thousand Talent Project, one young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions to the Country, and one selected candidate for China Postdoctoral Fund sponsors. We have one introduced Jiangxi Ganpo Yingcai 555 Engineering Excellence, 2 selected candidates for Jiangxi Double Thousand Program including one introduced, one academic and technical leader in major disciplines of Jiangxi Province, 2 selected candidates for Jiangxi People’s Ten Thousand Talents Program, one High-level and Highly-skilled Leading Talent in Jiangxi Province, one Jiangxi Provincial Young Jinggang Scholar, 3 candidates for Jiangxi Outstanding Young Talent Funding Program including Jiangxi Young Scientists, Star of Jinggang, and 1 overseas talent.
Our School offers two undergraduate majors: Applied Chemistry and Materials Chemistry, and currently has more than 600 undergraduate students; In addition, it offers one master’s degree program in the first-level discipline of chemistry, with more than 30 full-time postgraduate students currently enrolled. The chemistry discipline (major) is one of key built disciplines (majors) of Jiangxi Agricultural University during the 14th Five-Year Plan. In recent years, the average employment rate of undergraduates has exceeded 90% and the enrollment rate of undergraduates has exceeded 50%. A large number of undergraduates were enrolled in well-known universities both at home and abroad. The employment rate of postgraduate students reached 100%.
We have 2 provincial teaching teams, the “Agricultural and Forestry Basic Chemistry Course Group” Jiangxi Provincial High-Level Undergraduate Teaching Team and the “Environmental Chemistry” Jiangxi Provincial Course Ideological and Political Teaching Famous Teachers and Teaching Team. We have built 1 teaching demonstration center for basic chemistry experiment in Jiangxi Province, 4 on-campus teaching bases, and 6 training and practice bases inside and outside the province. We have won 1 first prize of teaching achievements in Jiangxi Province and was recognized having 10 first-class courses in Jiangxi Province, and published 16 textbooks.
Our School has participated in the construction of Engineering Research Center for Forest Park of National Forestry and Grassland Administration. We have 1 Key Laboratory in Nanchang, 1 Nanchang Superior Scientific and Technological Innovation Team, 1 university-level scientific research platform. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, we have undertaken more than 20 national-level projects such as the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and won 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, and 1 third prize for provincial and ministerial scientific and technological achievements. Moreover, we have authorized more than 40 national invention patents, published more than 190 excellent SCI papers. Our school has successively established harmonious cooperative relationships with universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, as well as more than 10 domestic universities and research institutes.
