[School History] The School of Engineering traces its roots back to the agricultural machinery major of the National Chungcheng University in 1940. In 1969, the Agricultural Machinery Department of Jiangxi Agricultural College was merged with the Agricultural Machinery Department of Jiangxi Communist Labor University to form a new Department of Agricultural Machinery. In 1985, the Department of Agricultural Machinery was renamed the Department of Agricultural Engineering. In 1995, it was merged with the Department of Computer Science to form the School of Engineering and Technology. In 2002, the School of Engineering and Technology was renamed the School of Engineering. The School currently has over 100 graduate students and 2121 undergraduates.
[Faculty] The School currently has 99 faculty members, including 10 professors and 38 associate professors. Over 85% of the teachers have master’s degrees, while teachers with doctoral degrees account for 40%, and there are 22 master's supervisors. Among them, there are 1 candidate of Hundred and Thousand and Ten-Thousands Talent Project, 1 national excellent teacher, 3 provincial-level famous teachers, 4 experts enjoying special government allowances of the State Council, 1 Jiangxi Hundred and Thousand and Ten-Thousand Talent, 3 provincial young and middle-aged academic leaders, 3 provincial young and middle-aged backbone teachers, 2 vice chairman of the first level society, 2 executive directors, and 3 directors.
[Discipline structure] The school has a First-class master's degree granting programs of Agricultural Engineering and a master's degree granting programs of Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, it has 5 undergraduate majors, including Agricultural Mechanization and Automation, Mechanical Design Manufacture and Automation, Civil Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, and Vehicle Engineering. All majors award a Bachelor of Engineering degree. The discipline of Agricultural engineering is the key construction discipline in Jiangxi Province during the Ninth Five Year Plan, the Tenth Five Year Plan, the Eleventh Five Year Plan and the Twelfth Five Year Plan. The undergraduate major of Agricultural Mechanization and Automation is the first batch of brand majors in Jiangxi Province. The school has three provincial-level research platforms: Jiangxi Key Laboratory of Modern Agricultural Equipment, Jiangxi Animal Husbandry Facility Technology Development Engineering Research Center, and Jiangxi Higher Education Institutions Key Laboratory of Bioelectronics and Applications. The school has more than 40 undergraduate teaching laboratories, including Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Mechanics Laboratory, Digital and Analog Electronics, Single-chip Microcomputer and Automatic Control, Automotive Structure and Technology, Intelligent Agricultural Machinery, Structural Engineering, Manufacturing Processes, Basic Physics Laboratory, etc. The engineering training center is equipped with advanced machining equipment, such as laser processing, numerical control simulation, CNC machining center, CNC lathe, electrical discharge machine, and wire cutting machine, etc. And there is an automobile driving base covering more than 40 acres. The total value of teaching equipment is over 50 million yuan, with complete teaching equipment and advanced teaching methods. The school has established more than 20 industry-university-research cooperation bases with the research institutes and enterprises inside and outside Jiangxi province, providing favorable conditions for teaching and practice.
[Research Achievements] For a long time, the school has adhered to the path of combining industry-university-research. Gratifying results in various work such as talent cultivation, technological innovation, and social services have been achieved. The school was rated as “Advanced Unit in Work” and Advanced Unit in Social Practice in Summer Vacation within Province. Many teachers won the honorary titles of provincial advanced individual, Jiangxi Provincial “Gold Medal Young Teacher” and Provincial Excellent Head Teacher. The school continues to carry out teaching reforms and strives to improve the teaching quality. 1 National Excellent Teaching Achievement Award, Provincial Teaching Achievement 1 First Prize, 7 Second and Third Prizes, 1 National Science Congress Award, 8 National, Ministerial, and Provincial Science and Technology Achievement Awards, and 7 Departmental Science and Technology Achievement Awards have been received. In recent years, over 100 scientific research projects have been undertaken, including over 30 national level projects such as the National Key R&D Plan, National Science and Technology Support Plan, and National Natural Fund. over 50 monographs and textbooks have been published. Over 320 papers, including 108 papers indexed by SCI and 33 papers indexed by EI, have been published. More than 320 patents have been granted, including 34 patents for invention. More than 150 software copyrights have been approved. 5 research achievements have been commercialized with an amount of 5.185 million yuan.
[Students]The school has made remarkable achievements in student work. The school has won many honorary titles such as Advanced Unit in Student Work, provincial excellent team in the “Social practice of college students’ bringing culture, technology and healthcare skills to the countryside “social practice activity. The school attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' innovation and entrepreneurship ability, adheres to attracting students through competition activities, attracts students through excellent teams, stimulates students' enthusiasm for innovation and entrepreneurship, and enhances students' innovation and entrepreneurship abilities. The school has established University Student Innovation Practice Center and entrepreneurship studios such as Zhilian Studio, Zhikong Studio, and Siyuan Architectural Design Studio. A learning model of professional teachers guiding students and senior students guiding junior students is implemented. In the past three years, totally 2000 people have participated in the training. The school has made outstanding achievements in the China College Students' 'Internet+' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, The “Challenge Cup”, National College Mechanical Innovation Competition, Structural Mechanics Competition of College Students in Central and Southern China and other competitions. More than 50 national scientific and technological innovation honors, 300 provincial and ministerial awards have been obtained. The school has a good academic atmosphere. In recent years, the admission rate for postgraduate entrance exams has been increasing year by year, reaching 40.39%. It has also been awarded the Advanced Employment Unit of the school multiple times.
