The discipline of Agricultural Entomology and Pest Management, as well as Zoology (Entomology), at Jiangxi Agricultural University, was established in 1953 by Professor Yang WeiYi, a world-renowned entomologist, amember of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, andapresident of Jiangxi Agricultural College. Under the dedicated cultivation and long-term efforts of several generations of entomologists including Zhang Shimei, Sheng Jinkun, Xue Fangsen, and Wei Hongyi etc., the discipline has made significant progress in professional system settings, faculty strength, and experimental facilities. Zoology (Entomology) gained the authority to confer Master of Science degrees in 1996, while Agricultural Entomology and Pest Management obtained the authority to confer Master of Agriculture degrees in 2006. The undergraduate major in Plant Protection was selected as a national top-tier professional construction point in 2022. Currently, the discipline serves as the base for the Jiangxi Entomological Society, houses the Jiangxi Agricultural University Institute of Entomology (an internal research institution), and the Plant Hospital and Insect Museum serve as key platforms for the university's insect science popularization base (provincial level). Additionally, the discipline is one of the organizers of the Journal of Biological Disasters.

The discipline currently has 14 members, including two provincial-level talents, two doctoral supervisors, eight master's supervisors, two full professors, seven associate professors, and twelve members holding doctorate degrees. The current main research directions include integrated pest management, chemical communication in insects, insect physiological toxicology and molecular biology, invasion biology, and insect systematics, among others.
