The Higher Educational Key Laboratory of Optics-ElectricsApplication of Biomaterials , Jiangxi Province was approved to be established by Jiangxi Provincial Department of Education in 2005. Laboratory based on the agricultural engineering disciplines for Jiangxi Province, "Eleventh Five-Year", "Twelfth Five-Year" key disciplines, with a master's degree-granting point of the first discipline.

Biophotonics belongs to the frontier intersection of life science and information science. The objectives of the laboratory are to aim at the international development frontiers of optical fast, green, non-destructive testing technology and quality control technology for agricultural products, food and their source quality and safety, to carry out applied basic research, focusing on the research of optical non-destructive testing technology for agricultural products and food safety quality, and to develop new methods and technologies for the application of bio-optics and electronics in the field of agriculture and food production.

The laboratory takes hyperspectral, multispectral, near-infrared spectroscopy, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray and other technological methods as its main research direction, and has established research platforms such as hyperspectral image system, near-infrared spectroscopy system, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy system and other research platforms. At present, the main research content is the non-destructive testing technology of agricultural products' safety quality (harmful substance residue), taste quality (sugar, acidity, texture), appearance quality (colour, size), and fruit high-voltage electrostatic field preservation.

There are more than 15 fixed researchers in the laboratory, including 4 professors, 5 associate professors and 6 intermediate. The laboratory has undertaken and completed a number of national and provincial major scientific research tasks, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the "863" high-tech programme, the National Science and Technology Support Programme, the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangxi Province, the Jiangxi Provincial Science and Technology Support Programme, the key projects of the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Education and other national and provincial major scientific research tasks. He has published more than 100 SCI and EI academic papers, and as the main participant, he has won one National Technical Invention Award, three provincial and ministerial scientific and technological achievement awards, and more than 20 invention patents.
