[School History]

    The school of Landscape Architecture and Art traces its roots back to Jiangxi Higher Forestry School, which was founded at the White Deer Cave Academy in Mount Lu in 1910. In 1912, Jiangxi Higher Forestry School merged with Jiangxi Higher Agricultural School which was established in 1909, and Jiangxi Higher Agricultural and Forestry School was founded. Since then, along with the development and transitions in modern agricultural and forestry education in Jiangxi, forestry education has faced ups and downs but has always been passed on. In 1940, the College of Agriculture at Chungcheng University set up the Department of Forestry. In 1958, Jiangxi Communist Labor University set up the Department of Forestry. In 1980, Jiangxi Agricultural University established the Department of Forestry(a new major which involves the previous major), which was renamed the College of Forestry in 1993. In 2002, it was renamed the College of Landscape Architecture and Art, and it was restored to the name College of Forestryin 2014, while retaining the name College of Landscape Architecture and Art.

Faculty

        The school currently has 150 faculty members, including 33 professors, 35 associate professors, and 80 doctoral degree holders (including 28 doctoral supervisors and 61 master's supervisors, 35 part-time master's supervisors). Among the faculty members, there is 1 member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Developing World Sciences, and the Academia Europaea, 1 recipient of The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 2 middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions, several outstanding teachers and supervisors, 1 national outstanding female worker, 1 national outstanding science and technology worker, 1 national outstanding Communist Youth League cadre, 2 provincial outstanding Communist Party members, and 1 annual inspirational figure in Jiangxi education, 7 experts receiving special allowances from the State Council and 5 from the provincial government, 3 recipients of the Chinese Overseas Contribution Award, 4 candidates for the provincial Ganpo Talent 555 Project, 20 candidates for the provincial Double Thousand Plan (including 13 flexible introductions), 10 academic and technical leaders in key disciplines in the province, 3 recipients and 9 candidates for the provincial national-level for the“Hundred and Thousand and Ten-Thousand Talent Project”, and 7 young scientists in the province (Jiangxi Young Elite). There are 4 members of the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee and 1 member of the National Forestry Professional Degree Graduate Education Steering Committee.

[Academic Structure]

    The school currently has 84 doctoral students, 502 full-time master's students (including international students),  26 part-time master's studentsand 1,481 undergraduate students (including 127 students in joint undergraduate programs). There are six undergraduate majors: Forestry, Landscape Architecture, Chemical Processing Engineering of Forest Products, Landscape Gardening, Urban and Rural Planning, and Environmental Design. Among them, Forestry and Landscape Architecture are national first-class undergraduate programsChemical Processing Engineering of Forest Products and Environmental Design are provincial first-class programsForestry, Landscape Architecture, and Landscape Gardening are provincial five-star programsand Chemical Processing Engineering of Forest Products and Environmental Design are provincial four-star programs. There is a postdoctoral research station in Forestry, a primary doctoral program in Forestry, two primary academic master’s programs in Botany, Forestry, and a professional master’s program in Landscape Gardening. The discipline of Forestry is the key discipline of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the provincial first-class characteristic discipline, and the high-level discipline in provincial higher education institutions. Landscape Architecture is a key discipline cultivated at the university level. The Subtropical Forest Resource Cultivation and Protection Teaching Team is one of the first national-level teaching teams and won the Award National Education System Advanced Collective, Overseas Chinese Contribution Award (Innovation Team). There is 1 teacher's studio at the provincial level in Jiangxi's education system, 1 innovative team of exemplary graduate mentors in Jiangxi's universities, and 3 high-level provincial undergraduate teaching teams. The school has won 1 second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award, 4 first prizes and 6 second prizes of the provincial teaching Achievement Award. There is 1 national quality video public course; 2 national first-class courses; 10 provincial-level social practice first-class undergraduate courses through online, online and offline hybrid and virtual simulation experiment teaching; 6 provincial quality online public courses, provincial quality resource sharing courses and provincial quality courses as well as 4 high-quality graduate courses and case study courses at the provincial level.

【Scientific Research

    Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the school has undertaken over 100 national-level projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, among others, including more than 60 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The school has received 2 first prizes and 4 second prizes in Ministerial and Provincial-Level Science and Technology Awards, as well as 4 third prizes. More than 50 international and national patents have been applied for, with over 20 patents granted. Over 1000 papers have been published, and more than 30 monographs have been edited or co-edited. The school has established good cooperative relationships with relevant universities in Canada, the United States, the Netherlands, etc and more than 20 domestic universities and institutions such as Beijing Forestry University, Nanjing Forestry University, Northeast Forestry University, Chinese Academy of Forestry, and Chinese Academy of Sciences.

    The school has several ministerial and provincial-level platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Forest Ecosystem Protection and Restoration in the Poyang Lake Basin of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, the Engineering Research Center for Woody Fragrant Plants (East China) of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, the National Innovation Alliance for South Ziziphus Jujuba Industry of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, the Key Laboratory of Bamboo Germplasm Resources and Utilization of Jiangxi Province, Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Silviculture, the Research Center for Rural Cultural Development of Jiangxi Province, the 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center for Breeding and Utilization of Characteristic Forest Trees of Jiangxi Province, the National Positioning Observation Station for Jiulianshan and Lushan Forest Ecosystems of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, and others. The school is granted qualifications for forestry survey, planning, and design (Class A), and has 12 school-level platforms including the Institute of Landscape Design, Institute of Plant Natural Products and Chemical Processing Engineering of Forest Products, Research Center for Wildlife Resources Conservation, Jiangxi Modern Forestry Industry Technical College, and the Research Center for Carbon Sequestration in Subtropical Forest and Grassland Ecosystems.

    The school has established on-campus teaching and research bases such as practical teaching and research bases for forestry-related disciplines, practical training bases for landscape design majors, the Tree Specimen Museum (JXAU), meteorological observation stations, experimental forests, arboretums, and science and technology parks. Our school has one national demonstration base for practical training of master’s degree programs in forestry, one national joint training base for demonstration master’s degree programs in landscape architecture, one provincial graduate workstation, one provincial graduate innovation base, and four provincial industry-enterprise graduate joint training bases. The school has also established long-term off-campus teaching-learning-reaching platform in over 40 scientific research institutions, forest farms, nature reserves, enterprises, and cooperatives within and outside the province.

Students

    The school has always been guided by the concept of “putting students first and serving their needs”, committed to providing education and value guidance for students, and encouraging their comprehensive development based on mastering professional knowledge. In terms of annual postgraduate entrance examinations, since 2020, our school has achieved a postgraduate enrollment rate of 30.88%, 35.83%, 32.68%, and 44.15% respectively. The total number of students participating in postgraduate entrance examinations and studying abroad has reached 493, and the domestic representatives of students admitted to universities and research institutes include Zhejiang University, China Agricultural University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xiamen University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Forestry, China Academy of Art, Beijing Forestry University, Nanjing Agricultural University, etc. The foreign universities include Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, The University of Edinburgh in Scotland, The Ohio State University in the United States, University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, and so on.

    In terms of innovation and entrepreneurship, our students have won a series of awards at provincial or national levels, including the silver award in the 1st National Forestry Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the second prize in the 4th Jiangxi College Students Entrepreneurship Competition, and the bronze award in the 4th Jiangxi Internet+ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.

    In terms of academic research, our students are not only engaged in the academic activities with teachers but also actively submit their own applications for conducting research projects. In the past three years, 19 national-level projects and 75 university-level projects have been approved in the College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program. In addition to that, many papers were published in the SSCI.

    In terms of art and sports, our students also perform well. A service team consisting of graduate students won the second prize in the summer practice activity held by National Agricultural Graduate Volunteer Service Union in 2021. Weng Xinyuan from Class 1803 of Environmental Design won the Bronze Award in the Chinese Division of the China-UK International Creative Competition, the Bronze Award in the Japanese Conceptual Art and Design Award, and the Creative Gold Star Award for Global College Student. He Jutao's team from Class 1801 of Forestry won the Second Prize in the Sixth National College Student Art Exhibition. Tang Zhengwei from Class 1803 of Environmental Design and Bai Zhengyi from Class 1901 of Environmental Design won the First Prize in the Fourth College Student Green Exhibition Innovative Creative Challenge. Zhang Zeyuan from Class 1803 of Environmental Design, Zhang Ruoxi from Class 1801 of Urban Planning, Li Yang from Class 1901 of Forestry, and Dai Wenqin from Class 1901 of Forestry respectively won the First Prize in the Microfilm category, the Second Prize in the Calligraphy and Seal Engraving category, the Second Prize in the Drama category, and the Second Prize in the Photography category at the Tenth Jiangxi Province College Student Art Exhibition. Wang Jichuan's team from Class 1901 of Urban Planning won the First Prize in Jiangxi Province's Red Reading Activity. Liu Yuxi from Class 1901 of Urban Planning won the Second Prize in Class C of the National English Contest for College Students (NECCS). Li Ting's team from Class 1901 of Landscape Architecture won the first prize in the Women's Open Group Team Competition at the Jiangxi Provincial Youth Orienteering Championship. Zhang Jinxiang from Class 2002 of the Environmental Design represented the school and won the first prize in the team event at the 2021 Jiangxi Province College Student Volleyball Competition, and also received the individual honor of Sportsmanship Award.
