The College of Chemistry and Materials originated from the Basic Course Department of Jiangxi Agricultural University. The College of Science was established in April 2002 and was renamed the College of Chemistry and Materials in August 2021. The College made remarkable contributions to the Universitys teaching of basic courses such as English, mathematics, physics, and chemistry during the period of being the Basic Course Department and the College of Science. With the Universitys efforts in optimizing and integrating disciplines and programs, the College of Chemistry and Materials will be committed to the university-wide teaching of basic chemistry courses in agriculture and forestry and the college-wide training of chemical professionals. The College will meanwhile forge ahead in areas such as research, social service, international exchange and cooperation, and cultural inheritance and innovation, contributing to developing the University into a high-level university with characteristics.

The College has 54 faculty members at present. In the College, there are 14 professors (including university-appointed professors), 15 deputy senior title holders, 36 doctoral degree holders, 3 doctoral supervisors, and 19 masters supervisors. The College also has one candidate for National Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talents Project, one National Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions, one recipient of State Council Special Allowance, one postdoctoral researcher included in the Selective Introduction of Researchers Funded by the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, one member of the Advisory Committee of Teaching in Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education, one listee in Jiangxi First Batch of Good Teachers in the Eyes of Students in the New Era, one Jiangxi Gold Medal Professor, 6 Jiangxi Young and Middle-aged Backbone Teachers, one candidate for Jiangxi Ganpo Yingcai 555 Project (introduced), 5 candidates for Jiangxi Double Thousand Program (four of which are introduced), one Jiangxi Academic and Technical Leader in Major Disciplines, 2 candidates for Jiangxi Provincial Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talents Project, one Jiangxi Provincial High-level Highly-skilled Talent, one recipient of Jiangxi Government Special Allowance, one Jiangxi Young Jinggang Scholar, 3 candidates for Jiangxi Outstanding Young Talent Funding Program (Jiangxi Young Scientists, Star of Jinggang), and one Overseas Talent of Jiangxi.

The College currently offers two undergraduate programs in applied chemistry and materials chemistry, with more than 800 undergraduates enrolled. The College also offers the second-level discipline doctoral program in agricultural bio-environment and energy engineering, the first-level discipline master’s program in chemistry, and the professional master’s program in materials and chemical engineering. The discipline of chemistry is a key discipline of Jiangxi Agricultural University during the period of the “14th Five-Year Plan”, and it is the University’s fourth discipline entering the Top 1% of ESI. In recent years, the Colleges average employment rate for bachelors degree holders is more than 90 percent, and the rate of further study is more than 45 percent, with a large number of bachelors degree holders entering famous universities at home and abroad. The Colleges employment rate for masters degree holders is 100%, and more than ten masters degree holders have been admitted to doctoral programs of Sun Yat-sen University, Fuzhou University, Hainan University, Northeast Agricultural University, and other universities through application and examination.

The College has 2 provincial teaching teams, namely the “Agricultural and Forestry Basic Chemistry Course Group” Jiangxi Provincial High-level Undergraduate Teaching Team and the “Environmental Chemistry” Jiangxi Provincial Famous Teachers and Teaching Team for Ideological and Political Teaching in Courses. The College has built a teaching demonstration center for basic chemistry experiments in Jiangxi Province, 4 on-campus teaching bases, and more than 10 training and practice bases in and out of Jiangxi. The College has won 3 first and second prizes of Jiangxi Provincial Teaching Achievements and published more than 20 textbooks and monographs. In the past five years, the recognition of Jiangxi First-class Courses for ten times has been earned ten times, and the College has won three provincial teaching competition awards and four provincial and ministerial excellent textbook awards and gained the approvals of 2 national teaching and research projects and 20 provincial teaching and research projects.

The College has the Nanchang Municipal Key Laboratory of Chemical Utilization of Plant Resources, Nanchang Municipal Knowledge Innovation Team of Organic Functional Materials and Agricultural Applications, Engineering Research Center (in cooperation with the National Forestry and Grassland Administration), Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Improved Variety Breeding and Efficient Utilization of Native Tree Species and Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Modern Agricultural Equipment.

Over the recent years, the College has undertaken more than 20 national projects including projects under the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The College has won one first prize, three second prizes and one third prize for provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological achievements. Meanwhile, the College has been granted more than 50 national invention patents, completed the commercialization of more than 10 scientific and technological achievements, and published more than 200 SCI papers and 2 academic monographs. The College has established good cooperation with foreign universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Singapore, as well as more than 10 domestic universities and research institutes.
