About US
The School of Economics and Management traces its roots back to the Agricultural Economics major established at Jiangxi Agricultural College in 1952 and the Agricultural Economics major at Jiangxi Communist Labor University in 1958. The Agricultural Economics majorresumed enrollmentin 1984. In June 1994, with the approval of the former Jiangxi Education Commission, the School of Economics and Trade was established, later renamed the School of Economics and Management in March 2012.
Soundeducation framework
The educational system is well-established. The teaching structure includes Department of Agricultural Economics (with a research center for Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management), Department of Accounting (with research centers for Accounting and Financial Management), Department of Economics and Trade (with research centers for Economics and International Trade), Department of Business Administration (with research centers for Business Administration and Marketing), Department of Finance (with a research center for Finance), Statistics Research Center, Laboratory Management Center, MPAcc Education Center, and College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Guidance Center. We offer six majors: Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, International Economy and Trade, and Finance.Notably, our programs in Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management, Economics, and Accounting have been recognized as brand majors in Jiangxi Province. We maintain one postdoctoral research station in Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management, one First level discipline doctoral authorization point in the same field, three First level discipline master’s authorization pointsin Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management, Business Administration, and Applied Economics, and two professional master’s program authorization points in Agricultural and Accounting. we proudly host over 3,500 registered undergraduate and graduate students.
Distinctive Disciplines
The Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management and Accounting programs are designated as national first-class disciplines, with Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management recognized as both a first-class specialized program and a leading discipline in Jiangxi Province. This discipline has been a key subject in Jiangxi Province during the “Tenth” ,“Eleventh”, and “Twelfth” Five-Year Plans, and the master’s program in Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management is a model program in Jiangxi during the “Eleventh” and “Twelfth” Five-Year Plans. In 2018, the discipline successfully obtained doctoral program authorization in three areas: Agricultural Economics and Management, Forestry and Agricultural Resource and Environmental Management,as well as Rural Society and Governance. In 2019, a postdoctoral research station in Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management was approved. In 2022, the Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management program was rated as a five-star program in the comprehensive evaluation of undergraduate majors in Jiangxi Province, while Accounting and International Economy and Trade were rated as four-star programs.
Robust Faculty
We have a faculty of over 130 staff members, including 68 with doctoral degrees, 24 with senior professional titles, 22 with associate senior titles, and 17 doctoral supervisors (including 2 part-time external supervisors), and 63 master’s supervisors. The school has one academician of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, two recipients of special allowances from the State Council, two members of the Education Ministry of Agricultural Economic Management Teaching Guidance Committee, five members of the “Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand” Talent Project in Jiangxi Province, one person from the Shennong Talent Program of the Ministry of Agriculture, one distinguished professor of the “Jinggang Scholar” program, one young Jinggang scholar, three talents under Jiangxi Province’s “Double Thousand” program (including one leading talent in philosophy and social sciences and two short-term introduced talents), one young cultural talent under Jiangxi’s “Four Batches” program, one leading talent under Jiangxi’s “Double High” program, one chief expert of the Jiangxi Modern Agricultural Industry Technology System, eight economic position experts, one comprehensive experimental station expert, six specially appointed experts for provincial condition research, two economic consulting experts for Jiangxi’s 14th People’s Congress Finance and Economic Committee, one candidate for Jiangxi’s Outstanding Youth Talent Support Program, and one youth innovation team in social sciences. Specially appointed talent positions include one Meiling Scholar and five Future Stars. The school has two winners of the Da Bei Nong Teaching Elite Award.
Excellent Teaching Conditions
The School of Economics and Management adheres to the motto of “Cultivating Virtue and Broad Learning, Benefiting the World and Society”, emphasizing moral education as its core principle and the revitalization of agriculture as its mission. The school continually explores unique educational characteristics, strengthens its advantages, and has achieved impressive results. Currently, the school has two provincial-level teaching teams and one provincial-level teaching expert, and developed four provincial-level premium courses. The experimental teaching conditions at the School of Economics and Management are continuously improving. The Economics and Management Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center is recognized as a provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration center. It has established a cooperative “Finance and Accounting Research Center” with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Jiangxi branch, along with a VBSE interdisciplinary comprehensive training center, a management comprehensive laboratory, an accounting manual simulation laboratory, an accounting computerization laboratory, an international trade finance laboratory, and a corporate business simulation laboratory, totaling six experimental platforms. Additionally, the school has collaborated with various enterprises and institutions to build 15 off-campus internship bases, with over 80 practical instructors at these external bases.
Efficient scientific research output
Over the past five years, the college has secured more than 30 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, National Social Science Foundation, and the Ministry of Education’s humanities and social science planning, alongside the publication of numerous high-level international and domestic papers. Notable achievements include earning the 8th Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award for Universities (Humanities and Social Sciences) Youth Achievement Award, 16 provincial excellent Social Science awards (including one first prize), and the recognition as a Social Science Outstanding Innovation Team of Jiangxi Province. Additionally, over the past five years, the college has published more than 600 papers in prestigious academic journals such asNature,Nature Water, andChina Rural Economy. Notably, Professor Tariq Ali, in collaboration with researchers from Peking University and other institutions, published an article titled “Crop Switching Can Enhance Environmental Sustainability and Farmer Incomes in China” in the esteemed journal《Nature》.
Advanced research platform
We ownboasting institutions such as the Jiangxi Provincial 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center—Decision Support Collaborative Innovation Center for Sustainable Development of Modern Agriculture and Its Advantageous Industries, the key high-end think tank of Jiangxi Province—the Rural Revitalization Strategy Research Institute, the key research base for social sciences in Jiangxi Province—the Jiangxi Rural Development Research Center, and the Jiangxi Provincial Soft Science Innovation Base—Jiangxi Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation and Development Soft Science Innovation Base, among others. These platforms are complemented by several university-level research institutions focusing on rural economy, immigration, rural e-commerce, and agricultural technology policy innovation.
Significant educational achievements
Since the resumption of enrollment in the Department of Agricultural Economics in 1984, the School of Economics and Management has nurtured over 15,000 students, whose influence spans across various industries both domestically and internationally. These alumni have become pillars of local economic and social development. Recently, numerous outstanding graduates have been honored as National Advanced Individuals in Poverty Alleviation and National Outstanding Party Workers, and some have been appointed as Distinguished Professors under the Changjiang Scholars Program. Many alumni hold leadership roles at various levels, while others contribute to education, research, administration, and production lines, driving economic and social progress. Furthermore, current students have won numerous national and provincial awards, with many advancing to top-tier universities for further studies, significantly enhancing employment rates and quality.
Extensive cooperation and exchange
In response to the national and Jiangxi provincial rural revitalization strategies, we have implemented the strategic cooperation agreement between the Jiangxi Provincial Government and Peking University. Working closely with China’s Agricultural Policy Research Center fromPeking University , we successfully established the Jiangxi Rural Revitalization Strategy Research Institute, a provincial-level key high-end think tank, which receives strong support from the Jiangxi branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. We have achieved significant results in talent cultivation, scientific research, and social services. Additionally, we have established partnerships with domestic and international educational and research institutions through talent development, collaborative research projects, and hosting summits and international academic forums. This has led to the approval of a national study abroad program focused on rural revitalization talent cultivation.
Asthe entry ofa new era, we face new challenges and opportunities. The School of Economics and Management upholds the fundamental principle of cultivating moral integrity and is dedicated to strengthening and revitalizing agriculture. We strive to establish “Six Management Pillars”: building “Integrity Management” on a strong moral foundation, establishing “Quality Management” through prioritizing quality, fostering “Innovative Management” by leading with disciplinary development, developing “Brand Management” through talent promotion, creating “Dynamic Management” by encouraging integration, and achieving “Happy Management” through collaborative education.
