The School of Humanities and Public Administration（SHPA）has its roots in the Department of Social Sciences, which was established in 1959 at the General University of Labor, Jiangxi Communist University of Labor, and has developed for more than 60 years through four periods: the initial creation in 1959, the reestablishment of the Department in 1994, the promotion to the Academy in 2002, and the restructuring in 2011.

The school consists of 4 departments, which are Department of Management, Department of Law, Department of Chinese and Department of Music. There are three faculty branches, one graduate branch and two undergraduate branches.

Currently, SHPA has 67 faculty members, among which the full-time teaching staff amount to 57,including 21 with senior titles (4 professors and 17 associate professors), 1 doctoral supervisor, 12 master supervisors and 18 doctors. There are 2 provincial teaching masters and 5 university-level teaching masters. In addition, there are more than 10 part-time teachers with senior titles inside and outside the university.

It has a first-level discipline authorized to offer master degree in public administration (with three secondary programs in administration, social security and education economics and management).  There are four undergraduate majors in public administration, law, Chinese language and literature, and musicology. The major of Public Service Administration is a provincial first-class undergraduate specialty construction site and for now there are more than 70 master students and 1200 undergraduates in the college.

The college has won 5 first-class and 6 second-class prizes for provincial teaching achievements, 17 prizes for excellent teaching achievements of the university, and many prizes for the first, second and third prizes in the provincial propaganda department and the provincial education department's thesis evaluation, teaching competition and teaching plan evaluation. “University Language” is a provincial high-quality resource sharing course, and "Chinese Language and Chinese Culture" is selected as a university curriculum cultivation sharing plan and provincial high-quality online open course.

SHPA highlights the direction of "agriculture-related" social science research, insists on the combination of scientific research and teaching research, and has achieved promising results in terms of projects, theses and publications, and awards. Since its establishment, the faculty has published 70 books (textbooks) and more than 600 papers in official journals. They have presided over 26 national projects and more than 200 provincial projects. It has been awarded 2 first-class prizes, 5 second-class prizes and 11 third-class prizes for outstanding achievements in social sciences in the province, and 1 first-class prize for outstanding projects of the Ministry of Agriculture. The college is the vice chairman of the Jiangxi Tea Society, a member of the Jiangxi Public Management Society, and a member of the Musicians Association of Jiangxi Province.

The college has built a music hall, dance training room, piano room, mock courtroom, management simulation experiment room and other teaching laboratories, and has established off-campus teaching practice bases in Dajiang.com, Jiangxi Daily, Nanchang City Economic Development District Procuratorate and other units. The college has a national platform: quality culture education base for college students, and three school-level platforms: Jiangxi Agricultural University Rule of Law Rural Construction Research Center, Jiangxi Agricultural University Rural Legal Aid Center, and Jiangxi Agricultural University Mandarin Training and Testing Station.

SHPA has been authorized to offer a good institutional, teaching and learning style. The college has won the honors of advanced grass-roots party organization in the province's education system, advanced unit in the creation of national legal governance activities, national May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Branch, excellent team in the national summer "three rural areas" social practice activities of college and university student volunteers, national outstanding student associations, Jiangxi Province May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee, etc.

The college gives full play to the advantages of comprehensive education of multiple disciplines, and the overall quality of students has been improved comprehensively, and a number of advanced individuals and awards have emerged, such as the National Student Self-improvement Star, the Third Best Student of Jiangxi Province, the First Prize of the National Student "Learning the Constitution and Speaking the Constitution", the First Prize of the National Student English Contest, the First and Second Prize of the National Student Art Exhibition, the Bronze Prize of the Chinese Youth The first prize of the National Student English Contest, the first and second prizes of the National Student Art Exhibition, the bronze prize of the Chinese Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition, the third place of the National Student Popular Song Competition, and other advanced individuals and awards.
